PULLING & LIFTING MACHINE

DO'S:

  • Read and understand all relevant operating instructions contained within this manual

  • Be familiar with all controls / warnings located on the equipment

  • Ensure that a firm footing is maintained when operating lifting equipment

  • Ensure that load slings or other approved attachments are of the correct size/rating and seated in the hook saddle

  • Use hook safety catches, ensure that the hook catch is closed and is not supporting the load.

  • Ensure that the load is free to move and is clear of obstructions

  • Ensure that the cable puller/hook is directly in line with the direction of loading before commencing a lit. Avoid side pull i.e. side load on the housing. Lift/pull/tension only when the wire rope forms a straight line between both suspension points.

  • Take up slack, lift a few inches, check the load balance and holding action before continuing

  • Ensure that the load is attached in a manner that does not pose danger to personnel

  • Ensure that all personnel remain clear of a suspended load.

  • Warn personnel of an approaching load.

  • Avoid swinging the load or load hook.

  • Report any malfunction or damage to lifting equipment to a supervisor promptly

  • Use the manufacturers recommended replacement parts when repairing a cable puller.

DON'TS:

  • Use damaged lifting equipment.

  • Use the wire load rope as a sling, or wrap the load rope around the load.

  • Attempt to raise a load unless the load is centered under the cable puller

  • Apply the load to the tip of the hook.

  • Use the PL-machine to lift, support or transport personnel.

  • Drag the load rope or hook along the floor or across other objects

  • Allow attention to be diverted from operating the lifting equipment

  • Raise/travel or lower loads above other personnel.

  • Leave a suspended load unattended

  • Adjust or repair lifting equipment unless qualified

  • Weld any part of the hook or the load rope.

  • Extend the operating handle to increase the torque applied to operating levers

  • Knot or shorten the wire rope using bolts, clamps or other devices

  • Repair wire ropes installed in the cable puller

  • Remove the safety catch from the top or bottom hooks.
